Mancare de gutui/ Queens stew
The balance between sweet and sour is just perfect plus the flavor of chicken meat makes this meal just perfect!
Recipe type: main course
Cuisine: Romanian
Serves: 6
  • 4 queens
  • oil for frying
  • 4 chicken legs (you can use veal too) or 6 drumsticks
  • 1 tbs flour
  • 6 tbs sugar
  • salt to taste
  1. Wash the queens and slice them in thick pieces.
  2. Fry them on each side then take them out and put them on paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
  3. Caramelize the sugar (until has that beautiful caramel color), do not burn it, then pour 1 cup water over and stir fast until well dissolved.
  4. Fry the pieces of chicken too, if you use chicken. If you use beef, it is better to boil it first, then fry it.
  5. Put this sauce in a pan then arrange the meat and the fried slices of queens all over the sauce. Pour more water on the top until everything is well covered.
  6. Let it simmer for few minutes then put it in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, until the queens are soft.
  7. If the sauce is too runny, dissolve 1 tbsp of flour in some cold water then pour it gently over the meal and stir easily.
  8. Let it boil for 5 more minutes and it is done to serve!
  9. Enjoy! It is delightful!
